Summertime

I always seem to do this...get started with something, get distracted, lose my momentum and get behind!  I was all excited to pull out the blogging again!  It seemed like I was going to have some swell ideas in my head so that I could post every couple of days at least!  I posted exactly ONCE and how long has it been since I posted again?

I could say we've been busy...however not momentously so like we are during the school year!  We've actually been home quite a bit!

I could say I've been toiling away getting my house organized...but unfortunately I haven't!  Who's got time for that??? :)

I could say we've been out doing marvelous summer activities, sunning by the pool and museum hopping...not totally untrue, we've done a few!

I COULD say that I've been peeling a toddler off the walls, chasing him down the street and attempting to keep him from riding the dog like a horse...and I would not be lying!

The truth is...I've had huge writer's block and I just keep pushing the possibilities aside, saying that I'd come back and write "soon".

We've actually had a really great summer!  We pretty much kicked off our summer on Memorial Day weekend by traveling to West Virigina to hang out with the husband's family at the Farm.  "Back in the day" it was an actual, functioning farm.  60 years ago, hubby's grandfather, his siblings and their families purchased this farm and divided up the land.  They have turned it into a camp of sorts, built cabins for the various families and hunt, fish, eat, hike, celebrate, eat, explore...and EAT!  There's no phones, no schedules, no pressure...it's heaven in the mountains!  Anyway, Memorial Day weekend we were celebrating it's 60 years in the family.  A TON of the extended family were there, we feasted, we fished, we played and...can anyone guess???  We ATE!  We had a cabin full of little pirates for the parade!  The kids all looked so great!  Husband's dad, uncle and cousin dressed up for the parade too...that could take some explaining!  And possibly some therapy!  :-D  It was a fantastic weekend, relaxing, truly a perfect start to the summer!

June was a pretty full month!  We had a dance recital weekend at the beginning!  Daughter danced her heart out, performed her first solo, and oldest Son performed his first dance routine with his boys hip hop class!  We were all exhausted when all was said and done, but in a good way!
Once we had the dance recital out of the way, the big kids did VBS, then there was soccer camp and more dance!  Daughter turned nine and Husband and I celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss at the end of the month!  We had a good bit of company during that month as well!  My BFF of 30 some years and Husband's mom came for the recitals, and then my parents joined us to celebrate daughter's birthday at the end of the month.

July was slightly lower key in that the kids and I didn't have AS much going on, however husband had several conferences on campus that he had to work long hours to help produce.  We still managed to get out some and enjoy some family adventures, grilled out, enjoyed the mildness that has been this summer's weather!  We went downtown one Saturday and experienced the Market Square Farmer's Market!  SO much great stuff to look at!  I plan to get down there and shop for more of our produce a couple more times before it closes for the year!

As August is now here, we are in that mad rush to finalize the details for our upcoming homeschooling year!  Dance and soccer are JUST around the corner!  Co-op at the EDGE starts at the end of the month...how has this happened???  Didn't summer just start???  Next you are going to tell me I don't have as much time as I think I do to get my Christmas shopping done!  I'm about as unprepared as they come for the next few months!  I CAN however tell you that I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching my kids love life this summer, I have had a blast listening to them tell me about the books they've been reading, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Keep an eye on this blog!  I have been brainstorming some topics to bring up here!  There will be a lot about our family follies, homeschooling, raising kids, food, faith and other stuff!  I'm hoping to work out some give away's, reviews and fun things of that sort!  I started a crafting business and I'm about to do a give away there http://www.facebook.com/baublesandsashes  Share the link and spread the word!
